Our History

Where do we start?

How did Vienna Lighthouse Church start?

Sometime in 2018, a very small group of 2 people started meeting in Vienna, Austria for a Life Transformation Group (LTG) whose main focus was discipleship. I ( Pastor David) had just relocated from the UK where I was part of the leadership team at Sheffield Community Church, a local vibrant church whose dna is discipleship and mission. I grew up in Vienna between the age of 9-16 years of age. In 2009 my family relocated to the UK. I got saved in the UK through a Youth Event at Sheffield Community Church at the age of 17 and never looked back.

From these humble beginnings of two LTGs, the group multiplied to eight LTGs and then we started meeting weekly as a Missional Life Community (MLC) for fellowship, relevant teaching of the Bible, providing a platform to serve one another and also for mission to reach out to other people. In September 2019 we had our first baptism. Three members of the LTGs made a decision to become fully devoted followers of Christ by making a public act of their inward commitment to Jesus in front of families and friends.

Throughout the year we continued to meet weekly (Fridays) for fellowship, relevant teaching of the Bible, providing a platform to serve one another and also for mission to reach out to other people. In December 2019 we hold our first Come & See event (Theme Night) and we had 13 people visited that event.

Towards the end of 2019, there was a sense that God was leading us to transition the MLC into a fully-fledged church reaching the people of Vienna in Austria and turning them into fully devoted followers of Christ.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of praise and worship, led by our worship team. We typically have 2 songs lasting approximately 11 minutes. After this we then share announcements, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church followed by our time of collection. After this sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible then follows by two songs lasting approximately 11 minutes. After this one of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. When the sermon is finished there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.
